Kami-Kaze

Staring down the barrel
Riding headlong into battle
One hand on the Sword
The other gripping the saddle
Stand firm, Holding fast –
Fighting down to the last man
Odds may never be in my favor
But I’m still leaving nothing to chance

I leave my life in God’s Hands
And throw caution to the Wind
I’m not concerned with wins and losses
Because the only certainty is the end
As I’m wielding with conviction
Ready to face down any affliction
Every blow the enemy’s thrown
Will be met with the worst of intentions

Making no distinction
Between the body and the soul
A Master without a rival
All impostors will surely fold
A Kamikaze, Samurai –
Servant of the Most High
Defender of the Evangelion
And crusader for the Light

(cf. Ecclesiastes 11:5; Ezekiel 37:9; Luke 9:23-27, 62; John 3:8; 13:16; Romans 6:6, 8:13; 2 Corinthians 10:3-6; Galatians 5:24; Ephesians 6:10-20; Colossians 3:5; 1 Peter 4:1)

Samurai

The samurai serves his daimyo, or Master, with absolute loyalty, even to the death. In fact, the word samurai means, "those who serve"...

"Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." - Philippians 2:4-8 ESV

"The greatest among you shall be your servant." - Matthew 23:11 ESV

Zeros & Ones: Who Is Jesus?

Btm
We explore the glorious truth of our faith through the Gospel of Mark. We discover who Jesus REALLY is through the eyewitness accounts of his miracles and what the implications are for us and our belief in Him as the Christ (God's Holy Anointed King)...not just a good moral teacher or merely a prophet.

Jester

Bring in the clown

Beat him down
It's time to court-martial the jester
Let's heckle the herald
Wear him down 'til he recants his confession
Teach him a lesson
We'll show him
Who’s really playing the fool
And if he won't listen to reason
Then we'll tighten the screws and ridicule
For his ridiculous rants and rhetoric
Label him as a terrorist
Tolerate him as entertainment
And tell 'em his message
Makes him a pessimist
Limit his access to the residents
And his words become irrelevant
We can target him as a heretic
Making a mockery of his benevolence
Never address him as a martyr
Denounce the prominence of his Father
If he's a bastard with no inheritance
Then the people won't even bother
Color him reckless and a derelict
Unfit to be a prophet
But know that if he's truly a man of God
We'll never be able to stop him...

(Matthew 5:11; John15:20; Acts 5:35-41; 1 Corinthians 1:18, 25; Ephesians 6:12; 1 Peter 4:14; Hebrews 11:26)

Magic

Jesus isn't “magic”...
It doesn't matter what Sarah Silverman says
Resurrection isn't just some neat little trick
It's literally coming back from the dead
Desperately unconscious
Fatally non-responsive
So far removed from breathin'
Next thing you know,
Reports are comin' in
That everybody's seen him
(Something like five hundred people!)

Instinctively, the conclusion
Is most likely mass hysteria or illusion
But answer this:
When's the last time you heard
About that many people
Simultaneously crackin' up
And having the exact same delusion?!
There ain't an institution big enough
To hold that much crazy
So if you believe
That's how it all went down
Your story-tellin' is lazy

How hazy would your facts be
If you saw someone murdered right in front of you?
I bet you could tell that story for the rest of your life
And still recite every single detail
Accurately and on cue
It could be 50 years from now
And there would still be no change in your point of view...
Especially if that person
Now a few days removed
Shows up at a dinner table
Sitting right across from you
Chewin' his food
Doin' all the other things
A dead man don't have the capacity to do

No, that ain't magic
It's majestic and it's traumatic
The last great enemy of our humanity
Suddenly movin' backwards
It wasn't a simple trap-door revealed
There was glory being concealed
Underneath a cloak of humility and charity
Taking back what the Strongman tried to steal

There's no sleight of hand
When you got holes in 'em, man
And if there's nothing up your sleeves
But Aces and eights
Then you better have a foolproof plan...

The Son of God became man
To withstand the wrath of his Dad
As a ransom for many
Remained slain for three days
Only to get up
And give vanishing lessons the business

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Heaven Underground

225134321_b2c82a5b35
"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water." - 1 Peter 3:18-20 ESV

"For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does." - 1 Peter 4:6 ESV

Heaven didn’t just come down…
It went underground

We couldn’t go and get it
It had to come and get us
Because we were held hostage
In the darkness…slaves to the dust

A bunch of guilty as charged
Criminals at large
Conspiring since the beginning
To assassinate God
And if you find that statement offensive
It’s understandable
But you still have no defense against it
And you know it –
Your fingerprints are showin’

And herein lies the biggest problem
Because even if you’re Robin Hood
You’re still a thief –
Because you’re robbin’
No sob story is good enough
To regain that trust
Our red-handed antics
Have left us stone cold busted

And in case you couldn’t tell
We’re disgusted with the outcome
But too prideful and bitter to ask for help
So we put our roots down firm
And build ziggurats wherever we dwell

But how we gonna reach the Kingdom
When we don’t even speak the same language amongst ourselves?
And when our stairway to Heaven was vanquished
It all came crashing down in an epic fail…

The most frightening attribute of God’s character
Is that He is good and a Just Judge
So He will always rule in favor of righteousness
Not based on what I think I am
Or who I thought I was

Truth is…
I’m a lying, cheating
Backsliding heathen
Full of murderous intent
And I’m stealing by just breathing
With no plan to give up the lifestyle
Anytime soon
So the mercy of the Court
Will have to be way more than prevenient
Because I’m already doomed…

Therefore grace has to intrude
As the Kingdom manifests the expanse
Of its territorial boundary
To dig us up out of our whitewashed tombs
And shut down all of the foundries
‘Cause the Devil’s melting down the metal
Turning plows and pruning hooks into swords

But the Kingdom of Heaven came among us
To suffer the violence
So Death can never have the Final Word

"From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force."  - Matthew 11:12 ESV

On The Contrary

"Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”John 7:24 ESV

Contrary to popular belief
You can’t always trust your ocular perceptions…
That could lead you to deceit
And what you hear may be the latest edition
But you better employ your mind while you take in and listen
Senses with good intentions may be the standard
But without discernment, it’s just learning the problems without the answers
So don’t believe the hype behind all the woof tickets we buy
Like, “If she really had AIDS, she wouldn’t look that fly.”
Or “The only way outta the ‘hood is gettin' filthy rich…
And the only way to get rich is to sell a few bricks”
Don’t think that just because I’m not always tryin’ to smash chicks
Means that my libido is all jacked up or that I’m passive
Heterosexual homophobic nymphomania
Won’t make you more of a man, but will leave a legacy that’ll stain ya
So I speak softly and carry a big stick
But it’s not the stick that’ll hit you, but a book of sixty-six
And just because I speak softly
Don’t mean that you won’t get licked
By God’s grace, I’m Gracie amazin’
So my groundwork is sick
No, I don’t fight for a livin’, but I will fight the good fight
I’ve got a mouth for war – dying to live ‘til we receive the crown of life
To the contrary, popular opinion is highly overrated
And belief separate from the truth
Only leaves you hopeless and jaded…

Zeros & Ones: The Gospel In Life [Week 1] - The City (The World That Is)

This week, we begin our new study by Tim Keller called, Gospel in Life - How Grace Changes Everything. In our first discussion we take an in-depth look at what it means to be a child of God in the city of man. After all we are to be in the world, but not of the world...so, what exactly should that look like? We also discuss God's purpose for the City and how we as followers of Christ can help to recover and restore that intent in the cities where we live through service. Many other interesting things are discussed as well, including a brief discussion on "How Should We Then...Drink?!".
Awesome and insightful time as always. Can't wait to see what happens in the weeks to come...

Tired

6258155964_1a3b4f6443

I’m tired…

Tired of dealing with all of the stress and strife

That comes along with dealing with these daily vices

I’m tired…

Tired of trying to live up to the expectations

And looking at the disappointed faces

Knowing that they’re still waiting

I’m tired…

Tired of the lies that the media’s selling

Salvation at bargain basement prices

Will always end up failing

I’m tired of you…

I’m tired of me…

I’m tired of “we”…

And all the times that we fight

About how it’s not supposed to be

I’m tired …

Tired of delayed justice

In a world where evil appears to get a free pass

And makes everything disgusting

I’m tired…

Tired of all the raping and the killing

Character assassinations, manipulation and bad feelings

I’m tired…

Tired of pretending that everything’s so copasetic

When my inner state of love and trust

Is absolutely pathetic

I’m tired of being alone…

I’m tired of being a drone…

I’m tired of sending out a call for help

And having no one answer the phone

I’m tired…

Tired of the unwelcomed favors

Like doing the maximum amount of work

And only receiving minimum wages

I’m tired…

Tired of always having to turn the other cheek

While the rich build empires

On the backs of the lower class

And the mighty devour the weak

I’m tired…

Tired of this illusion of autonomy

That I’m free to do what I want

And that someone out there

Has something they owe me

I’m tired of being vexed…

I’m tired of being over-sexed…

I’m tired of always trying to get better

But never giving my best

I’m so tired of hearing the best news ever heard

And not remembering what was said

I’m so tired of having all of the information

At my fingertips

But never a damned thing in my head

I’m so tired of being tired of everything

And it’s starting to make me sick

There’s only one thing left to hope for…

Maranatha! Lord, come quick!!

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

- (Romans 8:18-30 ESV)

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

- (Revelation 22:20 ESV)

Monster

3398375163_2f8619681d
Physically disturbed to see you standing there at my door
Ready and willing to take more of what I don't have left
A soul, a will; something of value I need
Yet to you, it's all the same: you cut, I bleed
From head to toe, I've given every bit, inch by inch
Over time I thought this would prove itself to be well spent
Rent all to hell without a thing to show
Miles and miles of life
Eroding beneath the blood-stained footprints on the floor

Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
- (Colossians 3:19 ESV)

Still

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!
- (Psalm 37:7 ESV)

And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
- (Mark 4:39 ESV)

Still…
As the words pour from His mouth
Bring eternal life to the dead
And surety of death to the lifeless

Still…
Seated on His throne from on high
Righteous in judgment;
“King of Kings and Lord of Lords” on His thigh

Still…
Let the killers kill
Let the dealers deal
If you’re filthy, stay filthy
And if you’re righteous, be certain

Still…
Let the world be shocked and stunned
When the Kingdom comes
Put an end to sin and death
By the power of His tongue

Every knee bow at the return of the Son
The Righteousness of God –
The Holy risen One!

From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
- (Revelation 19:15-16 ESV)

And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.”
“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
 - (Revelation 22:10-13 ESV)

Watchmen

But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”  - (Luke 21:34-36 ESV)

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood?!
Yeah right…don’t get me started
If you live here in this city of lights
You might say it’s ironic
Because so many love the darkness
So come and get your fill
In the carnival o’ carnage

Pitch black hearts hurling stones with no regard
With intent to do harm – the anger, the swarm
No prison can hold ‘em – gone is the calm
No need for a need to sound the alarm
Because the watchmen have been taken
In a hostage situation
With Stockholm syndrome, now they’ve forsaken their post
And everything they stood for on the day
That they first took the oath…

So instead of a ringing bell
Now it’s a running joke

Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
- (1 Timothy 4:16 ESV)

Everyday, Apocalypse.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

(John 1:1-5 ESV)

And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for
  “‘In him we live and move and have our being’;
as even some of your own poets have said,
“‘For we are indeed his offspring.’
Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man.

 (Acts 17:26-29 ESV)

Everyday is an apocalypse…
From the cars on the street to the people that we meet
God is revealing…Himself.
He is constantly letting us know that we are not alone.
Also, that we are not our own.
But still we press on.
We press on as if everything that has ever happened
In the course of our existence was nothing more than a random, happy little accident –
A very precise, everything just right…”accident”.

Nothing more than a big “Oops” or “Uh-oh” that brought about change.
From ooze to the zoo to you – we’re all the same
“You might be free, but your relatives swing from trees
And throw feces in cages…isn’t that amazing?!”
No, it’s scathing and seriously inconsiderate.
It’s akin to taking the Artisan’s work and using it in a birdcage to catch pigeon sh**.

Art without evidence is a scientifically manufactured illusion
To free us from the notion of Divine inclusion, or better yet intrusion
And yet, we ignore the body of work like a crime scene at the dinner table.
So Cain didn’t kill Abel…it was an “evolutionary process”.
“The survival of the fittest shows us how much we have progressed”.

What a mess; but it’s our best guess
That we feed to our sons and daughters
We’re ignoring the fact that chaos can only produce more chaos
And never produce order.
Creation’s primary goal is not to self-create or to replicate;
Creation resonates
It is the thumbprint of a Creator –
So let’s do away with just looking at scientific data
And all the other formulas to make us too scared to admit it
Ignore all you want, but the truth is you still need some dirt to play with…

Ex nihlo, nihlo fit –
Out of nothing, nothing comes
Yet still our textbooks read as if two zeros make a sum?!
But the only way that a zero can compute is with…One
The binary code of nature binds us to a Creator
But in a rebellion of thought mankind screams out:
“There is no God…and we hate him.”
Equating the concept of an almighty God to the Wizard of Oz
And yell at me to get off my yellow brick road
While clinging tightly to the curtain of “chance”
Trying not to reveal that it’s just fool’s gold
“Just click your heels three times to wake up from your dream
You’ll have all the answers you need if you simply believe…”
In what?! You know what the scarecrow, tin man and lion have in common?
They all have no chest, so they follow with no conscious
On the whims of a little girl’s dream, they reach the end of the road
Only to end up back in Kansas with nothing to show

But we behold Topeka it in its beauty; people of every tribe, tongue and nation
A place where wayward sons can stop along the journey to their final destination
Just one of the many havens that display the vast glory
Of a Maker who is benevolent
Who made Himself a God-send and not one of Maury’s guests
Never worry about second-guessing who our Father is
Because our DNA is the proof we need to show us that we are known to Him
None like Him, so there’s none like us
He is holy, wholly Other; so I’m wholly broken dust
Made whole again by the sacrifice of His offering
Of a Kinsman Redeemer’s love
Lisping to us in the spoken word
Healing us from the greatest lie we’ve ever heard
The hiss from the serpent’s lips
That has thrown the true origin of our species off course
And has left us an inheritance of a violent wind
And blindness as a curse

But our Creator heals the calloused eye
And He also masters the storm
So even if all around me were swept away
His eye is on the sparrow –
Amidst the turbulence, this is my calm

Remember this:

The Devil is only in the details
Because his Maker saw it fitting for him to exist
So, in other words, there are no “maverick molecules”…

Everyday is an Apocalypse.

Resolve

Resolved:

Not to make any empty resolutions of delusions of grandeur
Like losing 20 lbs. or not being a man-whore
Because everything that I could ever dream to be
Would be unattainable or unrealistic babble…
Just to end up coming up short
To watch the crows and vultures gather
To pick at the carcasses left scattered
On the boulevard of broken dreams
Of things that don’t even matter…
Yeah, it would be cool to get some fresh new clothes
But my skin is the issue and it’s getting old –
It’s not the complexion that’s the problem
But it covers up my intentions –
A heart full of apathy, neglect, impenitence and impotence
If I want to see real change in my current situation
I don’t need a new scene or diet
I need propitiation...

Vegan, egalitarian, legalistic behavior modifications
Won’t bring me lasting peace; just new sensations
Pragmatic emotions to feel as though I’m getting something accomplished
While I’m locked in the wardrobe waiting for Aslan
Eating Turkish Delight instead of the King’s meat
Because “man can’t live on bread alone”
(And this stuff is so sweet)
And there I go…
Trying’ to get back to old days via new ways
Like a has-been actor who thinks he’s still got the chops
But I’m just a hack character
Waiting to break out and my performance needs enhancement
But I’m already broken, so a new role ain’t the answer

I’ll do my best work when I’m just a feature
And my features improve drastically
When I’m not the star of this picture
Attributes augmented by the perfect performance
Of the Lead Role Majestic
Whose method is conformity
My independent work showed me
For what I was to the people
But it never portrayed the truth about problems that haunt me
Or how to defeat evil –
So I played myself to the bone
As a notorious scene-stealer
But it couldn’t pay the bills and never guaranteed a sequel…

I’m done with low-budget “the grittier, the better”
This may be the Year of the Dragon
But the Script says there’s gonna be rain in the weather
So I’m giving’ up on my best life now until Eden’s made right
And the only way to becoming a better man
Is by living out life as the Bride…

True resolve found in the love of Another
Say hello to the married life.

Evangel-Lies: Prophets of Profit

This is the sort of thing that makes me physically ill...the sort of thing that gets exported from America as "Gospel" (not all of the time, but unfortunately it is the majority report). Men like this turn the truth of God into a spectacle for their own gain, and never blink twice. Remember that Jesus saves FROM the "American Dream". Workin' For A Livin': Daily Bread That Is Needed Daily

Bread_of_life_mission
"Jesus came not to give bread, but to be bread."  - John Piper

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
(John 6:28-33 ESV)

The work of first and most importance in the life of the Christian is that of faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. Then, and only then, can any other good works pleasing to God be accomplished. This work, it should be noted, is not one that we accomplish in and of ourselves as we see later in the passage; it is accomplished completely apart from us as an act of mercy by a benevolent God (John 6:44). The work that is done by human means is important (2 Thess. 3:6-15), but the true work that ultimately gives life is not accomplished by us. Our work is just as terminal and finite as we are (Genesis 3:19). But, Christ is eternal, and therefore the work that he accomplishes is eternal as well.

Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,

and whose sins are covered;

blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”

(Romans 4:4-8 ESV)

Believing in the One who God has sent is referred to as doing the work of God. As we learn in Romans 9:14-18, human will and exertion are not enough to save us from the wrath of God. The offense of sin is judged by the magnitude of the one for whom it has offended. God is eternal; so, in order to be redeemed from our fallen state, we must be saved by a state of the same measure (John 17:1-26; Galatians 6:7-10; Ephesians 2:1-10)

Silencing the Haters; Silencing the Devil...

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:2 ESV)
